Peter says...

Now let's see who recognises which products I am talking about as I recount my misadventures with aesthetic brackets. There were the ones that came off with the adhesive which was handy but often came off with a chunk of enamel, till some whimsical device was invented to remove them 90% of the time. The ones that fell off within 24 hours of placement. The ones that were so clear you needed special glue to place them then a plastic plier to remove them. The ones that split along the slot the moment a rectangular wire went in even if it wasn't full-size. Then there were the ones that discoloured, the ones that were too white, the ones that lost all their tie wings and hooks, the ones with more friction than any tyre made by Pirelli and don't even mention the self-ligating ones I bought to stop elastomeric staining. Then there were the plastic fantastics, well they were OK for the early 90's. If you need the experience there are plenty of these lurking in the stock draws because they cost too much to throw out! Did I miss any experiences?

Enter the Optyc. The colour matches anything from over bleached white to B4. In over 12 months none have stained, they didn't fall off even when glued with GIC. The tie wings and hooks are very durable, but of course this means they can be difficult to tie so use one with a hook on any rotated canine or premolar. The bracket is compact so it will efficiently straighten lower incisors and rotated teeth. They have a machined slot which is accurate, reduces friction and takes torque without drama. An ordinary bracket remover takes them off without the slightest wince from the patient. Considering this bracket costs less than some metal ones I know some of you are sceptical! Try it; it is actually better than many brackets 3 times the price. Is it the best? Probably it only comes close to the best but at the price I can easily excuse the short comings because in the value competition it is easily number one, anything else is a very distant second and that second is very likely the Velocity Whisper.
