The Tweed system is an advancement of the edgewise technique with a non-programmed bracket appliance.
The brackets have a unique position requiring specific mm from the incisal edge. Developed as a 0.022 slot with wider anterior brackets while keeping an intermediate width for the bicuspids. This allows for more rotational control on the anterior while keeping an esthetic posterior.
Tweed brackets are widely used for extraction cases and can be used for en masse retraction of the anterior region of the mouth.
